The Event

The St. Michaels Running Festival, now in its 4th year, is one of the premier destination races in the Mid-Atlantic. Based in one of the oldest waterfront towns on the Chesapeake, runners will be treated to gorgeous water views, a quick mile past charming main street shops for the 10k and half marathon and a rockin' after-party in downtown St. Michaels. In addition to offering the flattest, fastest USATF half marathon in the region, runners get a generous package including race shirt, finisher medal or pin, complimentary refreshment, handmade finish line treats and so much more.

This year also includes a 1k Kids Fun Run for children ages 12 and younger. All children will receive a race bib and finish line food/drink! Registration fees are $25. This is a great way for kids to be a part of the event and start learning about their own physical fitness. The run benefits the St. Michaels Community Center and SMYLE.

Prior to the race, come to our expo on Friday for insights from the experts, personalized stride analysis and great SWAG provided by our great sponsors. This event is family friendly so whether you want to set a new PR or come out and take it easy as a family or group, you're sure to have a wonderful time at the 3rd St. Michaels Running Festival!

Would you like your friends and family to follow you on race day? Want to let them know when you cross the start line and what your time was at the finish line? Runners can sign up for instant updates via email and Facebook! Sign up for instant updates will be available for sign up on May 13, 2015 – so please check back then. Participants also will be able to look up bib numbers on May 13

Gun Time and Chip Time Rankings

SMRF uses both gun time and chip time for scoring. Gun time will be used to determine overall winners – 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall will be based on gun time. Age group winners will be determined using chip time. So no matter where you line up at the start of the race, your chip time will determine where you place in your age group. 

Photography

Each runner will be captured on the course on race day. Photos will be available for purchase within one week of the conclusion of the race. The 2014 St. Michaels Running Festival photos can be viewed at Chessie Photo.

Water Stations

There will be an abundance of water stations available on race day. There will be a minimum of 6 stations on the half marathon, 3 on the 10K and 1 on the 5K. The water stations will have both water and a sports drink. The water will be available at the first table as you approach and the sports drink will be available at the second table. The volunteers will also remind you of the water and sports drink locations as you approach.

First Aid and Medical Stations

The Talbot County EMS will be stationed at the start, finish and turn around point of the half marathon. First aid stations will be located at the start and finish. If you feel like you are having a medical problem which requires assistance, please head to the one of the first aid stations for assistance.

If you are on the race course and experience a problem and cannot finish the race, please head to the nearest water station. Let the station captain know you cannot complete the race and they will contact 911 and request immediate help. EMS, medical personnel and local authorities can withdraw any participant who they feel is at risk of personal health hazard or safety.

Course Management and Safety

We want to start by sending out a huge amount of appreciation for our local authorities, EMS personnel, volunteer fire departments, volunteers and administrators who make this race possible. To name a few of the organizations and people that run “the marathon” before the race:

  • The Talbot Count Department of Tourism

  • The Saint Michaels Tourism Board

 

The race organizers along with all of the above mention individuals and organizations work incredibly hard in order to make SMRF a fun, worry free and safe race. We received so many compliments about our 2012 inaugural event and subsequent 2013 and 2014 events highlighting how safe runners felt along our courses and what an enjoyable experience it was. This was due to the heavy EMS and police presence, over 1000 traffic cones and other traffic control equipment, volunteers who were excited, friendly and enthusiastic, and, several communities cooperating patiently to welcome over 2500 runners to our community every year.

If you have a moment while you’re in town this year, please let the volunteers, EMS personnel and authorities what a wonderful job they’re doing and how much their efforts are recognized and appreciated.

Policies To Note

  • All registrations are non-refundable

  • Registrations can be transferred for a fee of $10

  • You can change race category for a fee of $10

  • The use of iPods and other digital music players is discouraged

  • Any modifications to registrations must happen before midnight on May 10, 2015

  • Unfortunately, pets are NOT permitted on the courses

  • Strollers are permitted on the 5K only. There are no strollers permitted on the half marathon or 10K

Expo Information

The 2014 St. Michaels Running Festival includes a pre-race expo on May 15th as well as a post-race celebration at our Runner's Village on May 16th, located at the finish line in town. All registered half marathon participants 21+ yrs. old will receive a coupon for 1 complimentary beer, which can be redeemed at the Runner's Village on race day. The expo will also feature live music, great giveaways and the Awards Ceremony.

Parking – THERE IS A PLAN

Parking is one of the biggest logistical hurdles SMRF has to plan around. St. Michaels has one road in and one road out – presenting the need for a fairly comprehensive race day parking plan. We ask all runners to PLAN AHEAD AND ARRIVE AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE! Thanks to the St. Michaels Police Department and many volunteers, you will be gently ushered to a parking area. We ask that you please follow the instructions of our designated parking experts because they are tasked with getting you parked in a timely fashion and ensuring that all traffic moves through our town smoothly.

There is ample parking in St. Michaels, the surrounding communities and at the school campus to park all of our runners. Regardless of where our parking crew directs you, you will be able to walk to the start line (or jog for a warm up) within a few minutes.

Friends, Family and Spectators

There are a few choice locations for viewing the race. The most optimal point will be in ton as you will see the runners on the way out and then when the return to cross the finish line.

Awards Ceremony Information – Located at the Runner Village in Town

Each race will award trophies to the overall winners as well and age group winners. The top finishers can be viewed at the finish line on one of our kiosks or at the Runner Village.

Post Race Party

Following the races, there will be a beer garden, live music, awards and much more at the Runners Village in St. Michaels. The Runners Village is located at the Mill Property and each half marathon runner over 21 yrs. old is entitled to a complimentary beer following the race.

The Runners Village will be open from 9am-Noon on Saturday, May 16th.
