Runners Packet 2013

The Event

Last year, a new race emerged as one of the elite running events in the mid-Atlantic region.  With a flat, fast, USTAF certified 1/2 marathon course that winds along the beautiful waterfront communities of St. Michaels, this event attracted runners from all over the US in its opening year.  In addition to the 1/2 marathon course, the St. Michaels Running Festival offers a beautiful 10k course and a 5k course that winds along the beautiful Miles River.

This year's event has been enhanced to provide runners with an even greater shot at achieving a PR and, of course, all runners are guaranteed a wonderful race experience and a dynamic post-race expo in one of the most exclusive destinations along the Chesapeake Bay.  Some of the highlights for this year's race include: earlier, cooler start times; new, scenic and distinct 10k course, awesome runner bags, custom medal (for all 1/2 marathon runners) and beer at the finish!

We recorded over 1500 registered runners in 2012, so register now to save your place at the 2nd Annual St. Michaels Running Festival on May 18th, 2013! Space is limited to the first 3000 runners.

First Aid and Medical Stations

The Talbot County EMS will be stationed at the start, finish and turn around point of the half marathon. First aid stations will be located at the start and finish. If you feel like you are having a medical problem which requires assistance, please head to the first aid station for assistance.

If you are on the race course and experience a problem and cannot finish the race, please head to the nearest water station. Let the station captain know you cannot complete the race and they will contact 911 and request immediate help. Course Management and Safety

We want to start by sending out a huge amount of appreciation for our local authorities, EMS personnel, volunteer fire departments, volunteers and administrators who make this race possible. To name a few of the organizations and people that run “the marathon” before the race:

  • Over 175 volunteers
  • The St. Michaels Police Department
  • The Maryland State Police Talbot County Barracks
  • The Talbot County Sheriff’s Department
  • The Talbot County DES (Department of Emergency Services)
  • The Talbot Count EMS – Paramedics
  • The St. Michaels Volunteer Fire Department
  • The Tilghman Island Volunteer Fire Department
  • The Town of St. Michaels
  • The Talbot Count Department of Tourism
  • The Saint Michaels Tourism Board

The race organizers along with all of the above mention people and organizations work incredibly hard in order to make this a fun, worry free and safe race. We received so many compliments about our 2012 inaugural event highlighting how safe runners felt along our courses and what an enjoyable experience it was. This was due to the heavy EMS and police presence, over 1000 traffic cones and other traffic control equipment, volunteers who were excited, friendly and enthusiastic, and, several communities cooperating patiently to welcome over 1500 runners to our community.

If you have a moment while you’re here in 2013, please let the volunteers, EMS personnel and authorities what a wonderful job they’re doing and how much their efforts are recognized and appreciated.

Friends, Family and Spectators

There are a few choice locations for viewing the race. There will be a grassy area running the last 100 + yards from the rails to trail parking lot to the finish line. This will be a great place for friends and family to cheers you on as you finish the race. Map

Prior to heading over to the finish line, we encourage everyone to line the streets of St. Michaels to cheer the 10kers and half marathoners on as they journey right down the center of main street. Map

There are also plenty of spots along St. Michaels road where you can view the half marathoners on their trip out and the way back. Map
